Blood Bag Tag is nominated for an award
Friday 07 October 2011
Brenmoor's world wide patented blood bag tag has been nominated for a medical innovations award.
There is great excitement here at Brenmoor as we wait for the decision from the panel. It is a great honour for us just to be recognised.
The blood bag tag is a simple one piece design that is quick and easy to use and will securely identify the contents of a Blood bag as being compatible with a particular patient. It saves Blood Bank's time and money. Click on the link down the left hand side of this page for further information.
The award ceremony is in 9th of November.
Simple & Brillaint
Thursday 04 August 2011
Brenmoor printable wristbands are used in more UK hospitals than any other printable wristbands. On the back of the success of the wristbands Brenmoor have released new products that hospitals now trust and rely on as much as they do the wristbands.
PATscan replicates the patient information held on a wristband onto another wristband or label by simply scanning the barcode. It takes less than a second for the label to print an exact replica of the patient demographic onto this new label. It is quicker and more accurate than hand writing tube or sample labels as the chance of human error is completely removed.
Blood Bag Tag's are a quick and economical method of identifying the contents of a blood bag whilst at the same time complying with every aspect of the MHRA guidelines. Older methods of identifying the blood bags involved printing labels, sticking them to luggage tags before then securing the luggage tag to the blood bag by either string or cable ties. The blood bag tags can also be used just as succesfully to identify other fluid bags in hospitals such as saline, drugs and food suppliments. There is significent interest in these products from abroad and Brenmoor have applied for world wide patents.
STAB labels are a patented designed to be stuck to human skin without causing any inflamation of the skin. They are fully printable with text and barcodes and can also be used together with PATscan when in theatres and a wristband requires removal.
Michael Moorhouse of Brenmoor says:
“These three products are an exciting addition to our range and continue to help nursing staff, blood banks, pharmacy and labs to cut both costs and time. Bed days will be reduced as a result of hospitals implementing these products which is a massive aim of the NHS".”
UK Hospitals to Lose Funding for Committing Preventable Errors
Tuesday 01 March 2011
The UK's Department of Health has released a list of 25 unacceptable errors in the NHS, and warned that hospitals will be stripped of funding if they are found to be at fault.
After consulting health partners such as the NHS, health professionals, the Royal Colleges and the public, the department has extended the current list of eight serious preventable errors to 25.
The latest list includes events such as severe harm/death due to transfusing wrong type of blood, severe scalding and severe harm/death due to misidentifying patients by failing to use the standard wristband identification processes.
Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said the Government's aim is to modernise the NHS so that people have the highest quality healthcare, and live healthier, independent lives.
“We have identified 25 preventable incidents 'never events' which should never happen in a high-quality healthcare service and for which payment can be withheld across the NHS,”Lansley added.
“According to department, there were 111 "never events" last year. Medical errors of all kinds are estimated to cost the NHS around £2bn a year.”

PATscan launch
Friday 02 July 2010
Months of development work have gone into the latest product range from Brenmoor.
PATscan-Ward and PATscan-Theatre have been designed to completely remove the need for hand writing labels and other patient ID products whilst on the ward and in theatre.
The stand alone kits work straight from out of the box and are used in conjunction with our range of wristbands and labels. They put an end to hand written sample tubes, samples and wristbands.
The scanner and printers have no need to communicate with a PAS system and can be used to scan a printed wristband from any manufacturer or supplier.
They are priced incredibly economically and we are convinced that they will quickly become a very trusted, invaluable and time saving piece of equipment.

The NPSA say that pre-printed patient labels and A4 Laser Sheet Wristband/label sets are "UNSAFE"
Thursday 28 January 2010
The UK's NPSA (National Patient Safety Agency) have released a statement that says the pre-printing of patient labels in any form is unsafe. The statement covers all pre printed labels and Laser A4 sheets that can include wristband and label set combinations. The advice addresses issues that has long been a concern to many within the NHS and is being sent out to all UK hospitals.
The statement said...
“The NPSA considers that printing several labels with patient details at one time, so that they can be used at a later time for the patient's care, is unsafe. Labels should be printed only when required for the patient's care and, where electronic systems permit, by the bedside so that the risk of the label being used for another patient is minimised.”
Brenmoor have a range of labels that can be used in conjunction with hand held printer/scanners. The wristband is scanned and a label is generated in seconds and then used to identify samples. There can be no missmatching of patient information and at the end of a patient stay, there are no spare labels that need to be thrown away.
Brenmoor to attend Arab Health 2010
Saturday 02 January 2010
FIND BRENMOOR AT STAND 6H19 BETWEEN 25th AND 28th JANUARY AT ARAB HEALTH IN DUBAI.
Brenmoor, who currently supply 70% of UK hospitals with printed identification wristbands to ensure their patients are correctly identified throughout their stay in hospital, are looking to introduce the practice in the Middle East.
Every day throughout the world thousands of hospital patients are victims of identification breakdowns and errors of various degrees. This can result in major problems with transfusion, drug administering, specimen collection and point of care testing.
Providing a cost effective but high quality solution, Brenmoor's identification band contains a barcode, the patients name and their date of birth and can help reduce identification errors.
They have been designed following consultation with healthcare staff and have been approved by the National Patient Safety Agency for distribution through NHS Supply Chain.
The bands are easy to print, extremely comfortable for the patient and are resistant to soaps, alcohol, water and other commonly used chemicals used in hospitals.
There are a wide range of ID bracelets available including those for general patient use, short to medium term stays in hospital and ones specially designed for children.
Brenmoor is the only British and European manufacturer and supplier of printable wristbands to the NHS and is keen to introduce their pioneering range of wristbands and bracelets into new global markets.
The company is attending Arab Health 2010 in January (Dubai) and will use the exhibition as a platform to raise awareness and promote the benefits of printed ID bracelets, as well as meeting new potential business partners from across the Middle East.
Paul Brennan of Brenmoor says:
“Between February 2006 and January 2007, the National Patient Safety Agency Advice in the UK received over 24,000 reports of patients being wrongly identified and mismatched with their care. This can be distressing for patients and for staff and can result in serious, lasting harm, such as chronic pain, undiagnosed cancers, blindness and even death. There is an urgent need to reduce identification errors in the vast majority of hospitals throughout the world and we believe that printed identification bands will provide that solution, ensuring the right patient gets the right care.”
Arab Health is the largest medical technologies fair in the world and will be taking place between 25-28 January 2010. Throughout the show Brenmoor will be looking for potential new partners to represent them within the UAE and beyond.
